The Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center, located in Wildcat Park, is adjacent to some of the last remaining chert glades, a globally unique habitat found only in this area and the biologically rich Shoal Creek, an important place for migratory birds and other wildlife.
A partnership project of Audubon Missouri, the City of Joplin, and the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Audubon Center is a U.S. Green Building Council L.E.E.D. Certified facility.
The Center opened in the fall of 2007 and is a celebration of nature. Innovative "green" technologies create a truly distinctive building in keeping with our mission of appreciating, conserving and understanding our natural world. The local Missouri Department of Conservation offices are also located on site.
OUR MISSION: We Guide Learning. Live What We Teach. Nurture Respect For Nature and Thrive Outdoors.
You're never too young or old to learn from nature. Each year we connect thousands of visitors to the natural world through our educational programs. Adjacent to some of the area's unique natural resources, Wildcat Park is a 'living laboratory' for conservation education programs.
The Audubon Center hosts an amazing 1,300-gallon aquarium and Ozark stream, interactive exhibits, three classrooms, a reference library, children's indoor discovery area, nature store, wildlife viewing area, and much more. There are also five outdoor learning stations near the building and along the park trails. The Center is perfect for organized class learning or self guided exploration.
View Missouri Nature
Our spectacular site enables you to view wildlife in natural habitats along the nearby chert glades, Silver and Shoal Creeks, as well as the pond overlook. Each changing season offers the rich beauty of this unique property. The Audubon Center is a favorite for local residents and travelers along I-44.
It is the perfect location for a rejuvenating morning walk, or as a place to bring family and visitors to show off the beauty of southwest Missouri.
Create a Memorable Journey
With more than three miles of paved and natural trails throughout the park, the Audubon Center offers plenty of ways to experience a variety of unique Ozark landscapes. Enjoy native wildflowers, trees, birds and other wildlife as you wind along the banks of Shoal Creek, across historic Redings Mill Bridge scenic shoals and above the tree tops on a chert bluff.
