Executive Committee

Cathy White, Center Board President, is a lifelong member of the Joplin area community and a community volunteer including chairing fundraising events. Cathy is a past board member and president for Lafayette House and Joplin Daybreak Rotary. Her board service includes being on the boards for the George A. Spiva Art Center, Pro Musica, and currently is the incoming president for the Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center. Cathy has worked on projects for the United Way with a focus on not for profit board training and mentoring. She is a Vice President for UMB Bank working as a District Sales Manager.


Nancy Good, Center Board Vice President,
 is owner/president of The Title Place . She is a member of the Joplin Board of Realtors; Missouri Land Title Association (past president); and the American Land Title Association. She is a board member of the Freeman Foundation; Friends of the Joplin Museum Complex; Community Support Services; Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce (past chairman); United Way of Southwest Missouri (committee member, past president); and Joplin Business & Industrial Corporation.


Bruce Walker, Center Board Secretary, is a southwest Missouri native who has spent his days roaming the creeks, rivers and landscapes. Taking special pride in the local conservation efforts is very gratifying for him, even more since the marriage to his wife Renee in 2000, and the birth of their daughter Sydney in 2003. Bruce also enjoys the everyday duties of running his real estate investment company here in Joplin,and is currently office manager for his wife who practices ear nose and throat in Joplin. His hobbies include wakeboarding,boating and scuba diving every chance he gets. Bruce, who takes community efforts to heart, enjoys serving on the Board at Wildcat Glades and Conservation Center.

Doug Joyce
was born and raised in northwest Ohio. He is Director of Parks & Recreation with the City of Joplin. He spent 6 years in the US Navy operating Nuclear Reactors. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Masters in Recreation Administration and has worked in Community Recreation and as a Senior Center Director. He came to Joplin in 2008 from Holiday Island, Arkansas. He has one son who is 21 years old attending Cordon Blue Culinary School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tim Stanton of Springfield, is the Southwest Forestry Regional Supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).  He graduated from the University of MO at Columbia with a Forest Management degree in December of 1979 and began work with MDC in January of 1980 in Kansas City.  Since then Tim has been stationed at Alton and Ava as a Resource Forester and West Plains as a District Supervisor, moving to Springfield in February of 2007.  He is married to Valerie, has 2 step sons and 3 grown children along with 7 grand kids.  Tim was raised in the Kansas City area and bleeds Royal blue and Chief’s red.

Board Members

Christie Barnhart
is the external affairs manager with Missouri American Water. 
She is a graduate of Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and holds a BA degree in Public Relations.  She is a former board member of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Children's Center of Southwest Missouri. Christie has served on numerous chamber committees and currently serves on the Golden Apple and Boomtown Days Committees. Christie is a 1999 graduate of Leadership Joplin and an award winning producer/director for a media campaign created in 2002 for Missouri American Water, and in 1995 for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.  She resides in Joplin with her husband Matt, and two children Alex (8) and Anna (2). Her hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family.

Vicki Cassady, is a retired elementary school teacher and now works part time at Sam’s Club in Joplin. She and her husband, Calvin, live in Carl Junction. They have two daughters, Sarah Cassady and Rebecca DePriest and husband Brett. They have two grand boys, Calvin and Wilson. She enjoys sharing the outdoors with children, traveling and crafts. Her love of the outdoors came from her many summers spent at Girl Scout Camp Mintahama.

Rebecca Dunham is a Sales Manager/EVP with Arvest Bank where she has worked for 19 years.  She and her family relocated to Joplin in 2007.  She is a member of the single parent scholarship foundation committee through the United Way of Southwest Missouri.

Janet Garvin was born and raised in the Joplin area. She is owner of a restaurant chain in the four-state area. She is the Ozark Gateway Audubon Society treasurer; member of the Republican Women's Association; a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America; board member of the Joplin Little Theater and the Children's Center of SW MO.

Danny Overdeer
is a resident of Joplin, Mo. He has been a professor of science education at Missouri Southern State University since 1990. He was formerly a high school and middle school science teacher in Oklahoma. He is interested in Herpetology, scuba, birding and most nature related topics.
