Executive Committee

Janet Garvin
was born and raised in the Joplin area. She is owner of a restaurant chain in the four-state area and Center Board President. She is the Ozark Gateway Audubon Society treasurer; member of the Republican Women's Association; a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America; board member of the Joplin Little Theater and the Children's Center of SW MO.

Cathy White is a lifelong resident of the area. She is branch manager at UMB, Joplin. She is the Center Board Vice-President.  Her volunteer work is extensive. Currently she serves on the Lafayette House and Spiva Center for the Arts boards of directors. She is a Rotarian (former president and board member).  She also has chaired numerous committees for organizations such as the United Way of Southwest Missouri, the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and Pro Musica.

Nancy Good of Joplin is owner/president of The Title Place and Center Board Secretary. She is a member of the Joplin Board of Realtors; Missouri Land Title Association (past president); and the American Land Title Association. She is a board member of the Freeman Foundation; Friends of the Joplin Museum Complex; Community Support Services; Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce (past chairman); United Way of Southwest Missouri (committee member, past president); and Joplin Business & Industrial Corporation.


Ken Webb of Pittsburg, Ks., is retired vice president & trust officer of Gold Financial Services. He is the Center Board Treasurer and a member of the Kansas Society of CPA's; Kansas Bar Association; Sunrise Rotary Club of Pittsburg, Kansas; The American Legion; Girl Scout Council of the Ozark Area; Boy Scouts of America Ozark Trails Council; Mirza Shrine Temple of Pittsburg, Kansas; Pittsburg State University Alumni Association; University of Kansas Alumni Association; and Masonic Lodge # 187 of Kansas.


Board Members

Art Boyt of Neosho, Mo., is the Director of Missouri Alternative & Renewable Energy at Crowder College. He is a member of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). He is currently our building committee chair.

Jerry Calvin is a longtime resident of Joplin. He is Director of Parks & Recreation with the City of Joplin. He is a member of the Missouri Park and Recreation Association; MPRA Trust; Great Lakes Regional Council; Committee on Continuing Education; National Recreation and Park Association; and the NRPA Council on Accreditation team. He is a member of the Joplin Daybreak Rotary Club and Advisory Board Member with the Joplin Sports Authority.

David Henness of Joplin, Mo., is president of the Ozark Gateway Audubon Society. He is a member of the Audubon Society of Missouri Bird population study; and vice-president of the Missouri Southern State University Biology Club. He volunteers at the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge; Turkey Creek Stream Team; and the Nature Conservancy.

Danny Overdeer is a resident of Joplin, Mo. He has been a professor of science education at Missouri Southern State University since 1990. He was formerly a high school and middle school science teacher in Oklahoma. He is interested in Herpetology, scuba, birding and most nature related topics.

Warren Rose of Springfield, Mo., is the outreach & education regional supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation. He is a member of the Conservation Federation of MO; MO Hunter Education Instructor Association; National Wild Turkey Federation; and National Rifle Association. He currently serves as our education committee chair.

Bruce Walker is a southwest Missouri native who has spent his days roaming the creeks, rivers and landscapes. Taking special pride in the local conservation efforts is very gratifying for him, even more since the marriage to his wife Renee in 2000, and the birth of their daughter Sydney in 2003. Bruce also enjoys the everyday duties of running his real estate investment company here in Joplin,and is currently office manager for his wife who practices ear nose and throat in Joplin. His hobbies include wakeboarding,boating and scuba diving every chance he gets. Bruce, who takes community efforts to heart, enjoys serving on the Board at Wildcat Glades and Conservation Center.
